More Duck Tape

by Tilly

So, yesterday i went to the orthodontist, so i didn’t take more pictures. today, though, i made another wallet out of duck tape- one of the coolest i’ve made.

so, the flames are from my flame duck tape i got a while ago. i cut them out with scissors which was kinda hard, but it looks really cool doesn’t it?

The inside. The reddish orangish color is just white, but i colored over it with a sharpie. it’s orange, but not bright orange. more like sunset orange. it’s my Peeta sharpie.

it has the main part, and then a clear pocket for id/library card/whatever.

Now. Adalia and Devon both have converse, and they both write on theirs. which i think is really cool. but i got mine in August, and i’ve had them for just over six months. they are not old or ratty or anything. they still smell a little bit like new shoes. So, i’m not about to go writing on them. I have my duck tape shoelaces of course. But I wanted something else too. finally, i had an idea…

The ‘team Peeta’ is white duck tape colored with my Peeta sharpie.

Katniss, Peeta, and Prim

by Tilly

So. I haven’t taken any more photos- yesterday was rainy- but today is nice and sunny- so warm! So, I’ll probably take some more today.

Anyways, I did say yesterday that I had some other photos, didn’t I?

Peeta and Katniss. aren’t they cute?

I was painting them and I was making Katniss’s dress, and thought it looked like fire, and since I had two, I made Katniss in one of her dresses, and Peeta in his training center outfit.

Primrose. She’s a little different than Peeta and Katniss. For one thing, she’s taller. And skinnier. She’s actually different, she was this big long clothespinlike thingy, you know? Anyways, I sawed about half of her off (and got a big, painful blister in the process) and so she’s shorter.

Reallllyyyyy bad picture…sorry :) wow. that’s really bad. I just realized why, to.

oh well.

So, if you’ve been to The Hob lately, you might’ve seen this.

We now have the full lineup of details for The Hunger Games cast national mall tour…..
Seattle

Date: March 10
Location: University Village
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson

They’re coming to Seattle. Only problem is that it’s March 10th, which is really close to Apollo’s surgery. :(

Yeah, I’ve been complaining ever since I found out yesterday- on FB, Pinterest, and to Devon…

I guess I can stop now. It’s a real bummer though.

whatev.

More Photos…

by Tilly

just a few more from the other day.

These are the last of the photos I took, but I’ll try to get out tomorrow or the day after.

And even if I don’t, I have a few pictures I took of the wooden Katniss and Peeta (and Prim) that I just made. Well, I actually just painted them. But anyways.

Seriously, does that not look like a beautiful, warm, nice day? Well.

See, that too.

I mean, really, that’s not what it’s like. Here’s a SOOC (straight out of camera) so you can see (again) that I’m not lying!

see? same photo.

…yeah, there’s a pretty big difference.

Anyways. The Hunger Games movie come out in 31 days. Here is a cool Hunger Games website I found.

Photos!!!

by Tilly

Guess what I did? I realized that just because it’s winter doesn’t mean that I can’t take nice pictures. It just means it will be a little harder. So I went outside with my camera, seeing the red berries on the holly bush in the front yard, and then I found some more plants to photograph. Spring is March 20th, in one month! (if the blog says this post was published February 21st, sorry. For some reason it’s a day ahead) And there are already some buds on plants!

Spring is coming:)

And don’t let the photos fool you- if they look warm, well, they’re lying. It’s freezing here. The mountain in front of our house has snow on it.

Oregan Grape. There was a ton of it at Mountain School.

I thought these were bugs. Then I looked closer and realized they were seeds or something.

This ^ is one of my favorites!

And just as proof that it’s cold here, I’ll show you a photo:

See, freezing! This is the fourth photo, just SOOC (straight out of camera)

This isn’t all of the photos I took, and I’ll be taking more soon, so- Hooray! Now you don’t have to wait months for ‘nice’ photos!

What We Do At Girl Scouts…

by Tilly

every other Tuesday our friend Devon comes over and me, Adalia, and her (used to) work on badges for Girl Scouts. Well. That only worked for a few months, now we just hang out. Plus, for a few different reasons, we’re not doing Girl Scouts anymore.

Anyways.

This is what we do:

first, we got out my duck tape and started making wallets and stuff. Adalia said she didn’t want to use it because she would go crazy with it…and she did.

yeah. she wrapped her arm in duck tape.

she only took it off that night because she was meeting a potential doula client the next day…

like her red eyes?

i made a headband (got the idea from Devon). It’s yellow and orange with skulls on it that i cut out from my skull duck tape.

And, Adalia’s birthday was one week ago. Last night was her party. She turned 16, and her, two of her friends, me, Judah, and mom watched the movie Salt. We also ate candy.

Guess what I gave her for her birthday? A dress…made out of duck tape. I’ve never made clothes out of duck tape before, and it wasn’t that hard and didn’t use too much tape. I don’t have pictures but I will blog tomorrow or tuesday with photos of it. Enoch helped, and it was easier and faster with him. he also made a box for it.

This is the dress Adalia got at Goodwill. There were these white gogo boots that were so cool, but she didn’t get them. They were so cool! And if i think something is cool that you wear that Adalia thinks is cool, it’s got to be cool. Anyways.

So, she was also looking at these ‘Adorable, awesome, cool’ shoes. Um, no offense if you like them, but in my opinion they’re kind or weird. great…the more I look at them the more i like them…they really don’t look that cool in real life!

Books and Spinach

By Adalia

I’ll start with spinach, because that happened first. Last night for dinner that is what I had for dinner. And it was good, really good.

This is what it started out looking like. A pan almost overflowing with spinach. You can’t see it, but there is some olive oil in the bottom of the pan, because as I learned, if you don’t use oil, your spinach will turn out weird.

This is what the finished product looked like. Amazing how much it shrunk!!!! Some people think spinach is disgusting, but cooked like this, with some vinegar and salt, it is sooo good!

Now for a wonderful picture of my favorite collection of books!!!

This is my collection of birth, health and childcare books. I love having this collection! Most of the handbooks we bought in 2010 when I took my birth doula class. The other books, we collected over time whenever we could. We bought a few after I borrowed them from a friend and loved them, I found some in the free section at the library, and some were given to us.

Here they all are laid out flat, so you can see the beautiful covers!

These six are my very favorites out of all of them! The top three are mainly full of birth stories, or are memoirs by midwives. The bottom ones are more informative ones, the Birth Partner I always take along with me when I am going to a birth, because I have found it very useful to have along!

Random Photos

By Tilly

Here are some photos that I’ve blogged already, but they’re a little different.

Now, I have a really good reason why I haven’t been taking good pictures lately- I can’t. It’s practically impossible (not for mom, but for me) to take good pictures in the winter. Summer is the best.

So. When it gets sunny and nice and fresh, in the spring and summer, i will take nice pictures.

Above Rubies Retreat 2012

by Tilly

Last weekend, the 10-12, mom, Adalia, and Apollo were going to go to the Above Rubies Retreat in Olympia. Mom goes every year and last year she took me to help with Apollo. Well, it’s a long story but anyways, mom and Apollo ended up staying home. I was going to babysit Friday afternoon, and mom was going to take me to babysit and drop Adalia off at her friend’s who was taking her. Mom called a few people and then asked me if I wanted to go the retreat in her place. I said yes! Of course! I loved it last year, and I made a friend, Esther, who was there this year too, and I was excited to be going with Adalia (Adalia went when Tucker was a baby). I couldn’t wait to see her! It was only fifteen minutes before we were leaving though, and I had that much time to get packed for three days, get ready to go, eat lunch, and finish Kalina’s birthday present! So, we left and 11:15 or so and took Enoch and Kalina to babysit (they went in my place) and then went to mom’s friend’s house.

It took us 4 1/2 hours to drive to Olympia, but we made a few stops on the way.

All these pictures of going there are really lame, because I had the flash off.

Abigail (mom’s friend’s baby). We went with mom’s friend, and a lady from Cub Scouts.

Adalia, Violet and Me. Violet is one of the friends we made.

Something completely unrelated… I made this sign for the bathroom on Friday, because sometimes my siblings can forget… you’d think it would work, right? Well, I was gone all weekend so I don’t really know. But what I do know is this: when I came back Sunday, it was gone and replaced with numerous other signs/drawings made by my brothers. They said they took it down for Kalina’s birthday party…well they should have left it. Well, you’ll just have to hope you don’t come to our house any time soon (too late for you, Devon ;)

And, although I don’t really get why people love this holiday so much (holiday? is it a holiday? well, it seems like one anyways…), I’ll just say it- Happy Valentines Day! I mean, if you’re married and stuff it makes sense but I don’t really see why I would care so much about it…i don’t. but. Anyways.

:)

Completly Random

By Adalia

Well… I needed to blog, and I had a few things on my mind, so I decided to do one of the things I am best at: rambling about completely random things! First of all, remember the post about the hat I was making? I posted how I hoped it would be pretty much a happily ever after story, in which my hat came together perfectly, and I loved every thing about it. Yeah, yeah, you can probably guess where this is going. I got like two rows into the ribbing and realized that *gasp* the round was twisted. So I quickly twisted it again and kept knitting, which took care of the problem. So I knit on. And on. And on. Then came a horrible moment. I realized that I had been doing something on the pattern wrong, again!!!! So I very sadly/frustratingly/angrily ripped the ribbing out. Actually, at this point I was more depressed, desperate and sad. But guess what, the next day I cast on the entire stinkin’ hat for the third time. You know what, I think the saying ‘third time’s a charm’ is true. Because the hat worked out. The ribbing went perfectly, the heart colorwork went fine, and the rest of the hat knit up well. In fact, everything seemed to be going well until I tried to put the hat on my head, and I had to stretch and stretch it to get it on. Turns out I did the colorwork too tightly, and so the part of the hat with the hearts was tighter than the rest. Well I was NOT going to rip the hat out now!!!! So I wore it a few times, and then found someone to give it to, and younger girl, who hopefully the hat fit. I’ll give you a pic now.

You can kind of see it is a bit to tight right now.

Here you can see a bit more of the detail, I put a bow on the side. It’s not that I disliked the hat, I like it, it just  didn’t fit perfectly, and it didn’t exactly turn out how I had hope it would. But oh well, hopefully the hat is now living happily ever after with it’s new owner.

Oh, remember my alpaca? Well it came a few weeks ago! I’ve even got a picture for you (it is not a very good picture, so I apologize in advance).

Like I said, bad photo.

Now comes the part where I am supposed to be rambling about random stuff. But there is something I need to tell you. I may be good at rambling about random things, but I am even better at forgetting. Yeah. It get’s really annoying sometimes. So I guess I’ll tell you about my other knitting stuff. I am working on the second sleeve of my sweater, and I am at the very worst part… just knitting boring old rounds untill the sleeve is long enough. I’m not looking forward to that. Eventually I’ll pull it out and finish it, and it will probably help me get motivated if I think about how after the sleeve is done, I only have to connect the pieces and knit the yoke. I am also working on the blanket still. Then there is the beret, that is sort of at a slow point… but I’m at least half way done. Next to last is the single handwarmer out of my favorite green yarn… like merino, sale, soft… does that jog your memory? Anyway, I’ve only knit one of them so far, and they are going to be wayyyy to small for me. So when I finish the next one I’ll have to find a little person to give them to. That should be fun! And last of all is the project that I forgot about. I think this is the very first one I’ve forgotten. My horseshoe cable sock… in laceweight. Yeah. Yuck!!! Laceweight and cabling… to make socks? It takes forever!!!! I don’t think I’ll ever finish the pair… but we’ll see. Enough knitting stories (well… that combined with the fact that I can’t think of anymore right now).
